SUMMARY OF ENACTED BREASTFEEDING LEGISLATION

There are no laws pertaining to breastfeeding in the District of Columbia.
Note that in 1999, included in a postal appropriations bill, was language that a woman may breastfeed her child at any
location in a federal building or on federal property, if the woman and her child are otherwise authorized to be present
at the location. Pub. L. 106-058, sec. 647 (1999). Federal buildings and property may include museums, court houses,
agencies, national parks throughout the country, if owned or maintained by the federal government.
