Important Lessons

When I snapped
a picture of my 23-month-old daughter, Leah, "breastfeeding"
her baby doll, it made me realize how important our example is to our
children and to the success of breastfeeding. My mother set that example
for me and, when I was expecting my first child, offered the suggestion
of seeking support through La Leche League as she had done in the past.
Now that I am a full-time mother and tandem nursing my two-year-old
and four-month-old daughters, I can really appreciate my mother's influence
and the support I receive at La Leche League Series Meetings from other
mothers who have done the same.
How wonderful
it is that my daughter is learning how to "best feed" her
baby, even at this age and amidst increased advertising of bottle-feeding.
It is a wonderful gift that we are exposing our children to breastfeeding
as the norm. They may also go on to do the same if they are blessed
with children someday.
