I collect old editions of
THE WOMANLY BOOK OF BREASTFEEDING. Scattered around my home, along with
copies of NEW BEGINNINGS and pro-breastfeeding children's books, are
older versions of La Leche League's breastfeeding manual. My two-year-old
daughter loves the books. As we sat in the living room the other night,
she found my newest edition of THE WOMANLY BOOK OF BREASTFEEDING. She
looked at it with great excitement written all over her face. I asked
her what she was reading and she looked at me with a huge grin and exclaimed
"It's a book on how mommies are made!" My mother-in-law was
an LLL Leader and so am I. With my daughter's words, I suddenly imagined
her future as a third-generation LLL Leader, who is already learning
to live La Leche League's concepts.
