Leader Information
Each La Leche League Leader is a mother who has breastfed and who enjoys helping other
mothers to do so. Through her training, her contact with many nursing mothers and her own
experiences, a La Leche League Leader can provide information and practical suggestions to
help a mother cope with any difficulties that may occur. La Leche League Leaders are available
to speak with a mother on the telephone or to answer questions by email. The training which a
Leader receives through the accreditation process makes her uniquely qualified to support
breastfeeding mothers. Selected initially for her experience, motivation and empathy, a La Leche
League Leader is required to complete a comprehensive programme to familiarise herself with most
aspects of breastfeeding and also to develop her counselling skills. Once accredited, a Leader is
provided with a continuing supply of information and support, including regular journals, contact
with other experienced Leaders, and enrichment workshops and conferences. All Leaders are volunteers.
