2007. The theme for this Conference is 50 Years -- Celebrating the Power of Breastfeeding.
The power of breastfeeding is evident in its nutritional and immunological gifts including life-saving
properties, emotional benefits, health advantages to mother and baby, ecological implications, and economic
benefits.
Every day LLL Leaders share the power of mother-to-mother breastfeeding support. First empowered by the
experience of nursing their own babies, they reach out as did the Founders of La Leche League to touch other
mothers with their personal knowledge and information.
When Leaders provide the necessary encouragement, information, and support, most mothers continue breastfeeding
their babies. Leaders help new mothers to discover that breastfeeding is a wonderful way to feed babies, an
effective parenting tool, and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. As a mother nurtures her child, she gains confidence
and feels empowered not only in her role as a mother, but in other facets of her life.
Nowhere is the power of breastfeeding as evident as at an LLLI Conference -- the place where the world of
breastfeeding gathers, where breastfeeding is the norm, and where the latest research on breastfeeding and
