Can you feel it? The electricity? The anticipation? It’s time to start planning for the World Walk for Breastfeeding. Grab your walking shoes, gather to support family and friends, and prepare to have a good time while raising money to support breastfeeding mothers and babies.

This year’s World Breastfeeding Week theme is Breastfeeding: Healthy Mothers and Healthy Babies; it’s certainly a theme that reflects the great work you do for breastfeeding mothers and babies every day.

When you lead a Group Meeting, when you talk with a mother about breastfeeding, or when you attend La Leche League educational events, you are helping women with the education and support that they need in order to breastfeed. You are helping to encourage healthy mothers and healthy babies.

World Breastfeeding Week, always celebrated August 1-7, marks the anniversary of the Innocenti Declaration on the Protection, Promotion and Support of Breastfeeding, which was adopted in 1990 by 32 governments and 10 United Nations Agencies. One year later, La Leche League International held its first World Walk for Breastfeeding to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week. We’ve been celebrating and Walking ever since!

The World Walk works on many levels. Walkers raise money for all levels of La Leche League, they promote breastfeeding, and they overwhelmingly report that they have a great deal of fun in the process. Walk participants across the world help to collect the necessary resources that all levels of La Leche League need to continue our mission of helping mothers worldwide to breastfeed their babies.

Walk registration postcards have been mailed to all La Leche League International Groups. If your Group has not received their postcard or for general registration information, write us at LLLI, PO Box 4079, Schaumburg, IL 60168.4079, USA; fax your request to 847-519-0035, or call 847.519.9585 or 847.519.7730 to register or get information by phone.

Register your Group and Walk to promote breastfeeding, to promote the health of mothers and babies around the world, to earn funds to attend La Leche League educational events, and to receive fun prizes for your Group. Register to do a good deed and have a good time! Don’t delay, register today!
