Grains of Sand in Paraguay

Cyntia Leon
Asunción Paraguay
Translated by Pushpa Panadam
From: LEAVEN, Vol. 39 No. 6, December 2003 - January 2004, p. 138.

When I attended my first La Leche League meeting, my eldest son Alvaro was six months old and I had started feeling the pressures to wean. But thanks to the support and the information I received at LLL meetings, I was able to breastfeed until he weaned himself.

For me, the most important date was the first Wednesday of every month. At LLL Group meetings, I not only learned the techniques of breastfeeding, but also found a warm, friendly, and understanding group of women who would guide me in the art of motherhood and the raising of children. It allowed me to enjoy the multiple benefits of breastfeeding. I would return home after each meeting with renewed enthusiasm and my confidence recharged that breastfeeding is the best.

I am very grateful that there is a La Leche League group in Paraguay-it has made so much possible in my life. Today, seven years after that first meeting, I have two other children, Ignacio, four, and Ana Laura, 10 months, who is still breastfeeding. La Liga de la Leche has had such a positive impact on my life that I am also a Leader. I wish to contribute my grain of sand to our Group so it continues to grow and to help more mothers and babies enjoy the wonderful experience of breastfeeding.

Cyntia Leon has been a La Leche Leader in Paraguay since 2000. She lives in Asunción, Paraguay with her husband and children. Pushpa Panadam, who translated Cyntia's article, also became a Leader in 2000, and lives in Paraguay with her children and husband.
