Ever wonder where World Breastfeeding Week Celebration money goes? What some of it is used for? Annually, five percent goes directly to the USA Divisions Joint Projects and is made available to US Leaders for outreach projects that further the La Leche League mission in the USA. Each year from January to February, applications are accepted for USA Divisions Joint Project Grants. This year, seven US Groups received grants ranging from $400 to $1,500. These projects show the depth and breadth of the La Leche League mission. Thank you to everyone who raised WBWC money for the Joint Projects and congratulations to all the recipients.

2007 Joint Projects Grants

We are happy to announce that 2007 USA Division Joint Projects Grants, totaling $6,150, have been awarded to seven La Leche League Groups in the USA:

LLL Wilmington, NC, USA: $500 for materials to start a new Group for low-income Spanish-speaking mothers, in conjunction with a local Hispanic outreach center.

LLL Garland Spanish, TX, USA: $500 to establish a Spanish Group Library, as well as information sheets for hospital distribution.

LLL Chapel Hill North/AM, NC, USA: $1,500 for a lecture series and books for resident physicians plus at-risk new mother clinic breastfeeding support packages.

LLL Cumberland/ Lincoln, RI, USA: $650 to establish a relationship with 10 health care providers providing reference books and new mother breastfeeding packets for their offices.

LLL Delta County, MI, USA: $1,400 to be combined with a community grant to put LLL material in the hospital welcome baby tote bag. Information sheets will be attached to stuffed bears wearing an LLL logo t-shirt.

LLL Southern Indiana, KY/TN, USA: $1,200 for expectant mother packets to be given to physicians' offices/hospitals and for nurse appreciation.

LLL Platte Co., WY, USA: $400 for a billboard to announce a new Group, in conjunction with other community advertising.

Money for the Joint Projects comes solely from WBWC proceeds. Five percent of all WBWC money goes into this fund. Reports and financial details will be posted on the LLL in the USA, Division, and Area Web sites as they become available.

In early 2008, USA Leaders, Groups, and Areas may apply for the 2008 USA Divisions Joint Project Grants. The Joint Project account is a great funding opportunity for all US Leaders. They may submit requests for grants to fund projects that will spread La Leche League breastfeeding information and awareness, not only in their Area and/or Division, but throughout the entire USA.
