In Providence, Rhode Island, USA, we are always coming up with interesting meetings that address the needs of the diverse and talented group of mothers who attend our La Leche League Series Meetings. We talk about LLL philosophy at every meeting, but we wanted to go a little deeper in our exploration of how a true understanding of our beliefs could benefit our members and their children. At one Series Meeting, our Group developed advertising campaigns/slogans for promoting an understanding of and appreciation for LLL philosophy.
The mothers worked in small groups to design a poster relating to one of the 10 philosophy statements, selecting one they were all excited about, which they then shared with the Group. In these posters, the mothers shared their artwork and word craft.
One campaign addressed the father's role in nursing. LLL believes breastfeeding is enhanced and the nursing couple sustained by the loving support, help, and companionship of the baby's father. A father's unique relationship with his baby is an important element in the child's development from early infancy and the poster's slogan read, "Nursing is a family affair."
Another group addressed the good nutrition/whole foods statement: Good nutrition means eating a well-balanced and varied diet of foods in as close to their natural state as possible. Their clever ad read, "Delicious and Nutritious. There's nothing quite like a Full-Bodied drink to quench your thirst. Got Mother's Milk?" We had a very lively discussion!
