Continuing the LLL Mission

World Breastfeeding Week is officially recognized every year on August 1 through 7. In honor of this event, La Leche League Leaders and members around the world plan celebratory events throughout the year, which include picnics, luncheons, and zoo days, to name a few. The funds raised at these events help support La Leche League at local and international levels.
In the USA, after several successful years of fundraising on behalf of La Leche League, World Breastfeeding Week Celebrations (WBWC) recently donated $9,660 (US) to the LLL Breastfeeding Helpline in the US.
LLL Leader and Helpline operator Kim Hearst demonstrated how she supports LLL by taking a Helpline shift at her Group's WBWC event. Since LLL of Greater Lawrence, Massachusetts, USA meets at the local library, it seemed the perfect place to publicize their work in the community while enjoying the fun of a picnic and parade that she and her co-Leader, Jan Chetelat, planned. During those two hours, Kim took eight calls from moms who needed information or help.
Sunshine Scoville, an LLL Leader of Durham, North Carolina, USA, brings awareness of breastfeeding and La Leche League to her community by writing to friends, family, and LLL Group members. She shares the importance of breastfeeding and her involvement with the organization, and explains how her husband designed a trifold flyer for WBW and donated the printing costs. She also includes a family picture of her children. There's no better way to show the benefits of breastfeeding!
Get involved in a World Breastfeeding Week event in your community. Planning and preparation are always in the works, and your ideas can make a difference! Raising money annually through WBW helps us to continue to support mothers everywhere. The Helpline in the US, for example, will continue to support mothers thanks to donations and participation in celebrations that were held in the US in honor of WBW.

Thank you for your involvement in helping us continue to support the mission of LLL -- helping mothers and babies know the joys of breastfeeding.
