A Once In a Lifetime Opportunity

Mary Hurt
LLLI Conference Team
From NEW BEGINNINGS, Vol. 23 No. 6, November-December 2006, p. 272

Parents, children, and health care professionals from around the world will gather for the La Leche League International Conference on July 20-23, 2007 at the Hilton Chicago in Chicago, Illinois, USA. There, you will have the opportunity to attend inspiring sessions on breastfeeding, parenting, and personal development.

Dr. William and Martha Sears will be among the outstanding speakers in attendance. Dr. Sears has been in pediatric practice for more than 30 years, has written 30 plus pediatric books, and appeared on more than 100 television programs. Mrs. Sears is a registered nurse, a childbirth educator, an LLL Leader, and a breastfeeding consultant. She is the co-author of nine parenting books and a popular speaker. They have raised eight children.

Dr. and Mrs. Sears have been in the forefront of attachment parenting. In fact, they coined the term. They believe that attachment parenting involves, among other things, bonding, breastfeeding, babywearing, and the belief that babies need to be listened to. Most children who are raised with attachment parenting become caring, compassionate, connected, careful, and confident.

Two of the Sears' sons will also be speaking at the LLLI Conference. Dr. James Sears and Dr. Robert Sears are both pediatricians and co-authors of books including The Premature Baby Book, The Baby Sleep Book, and Father's First Steps: Twenty-Five Things Every New Dad Should Know.

Dr. James Sears is a popular speaker who is most passionate about the vital role that nutrition plays in a variety of medical and behavioral problems. Dr. Robert Sears, also a popular speaker, is interested in presenting a balanced look at immunizations. His wife is an active LLL Leader.

Activities at the LLLI Conference!

PIZZAZZ, the ambiance and activity team for LLL International Conferences, is made up of people who want to bring fun to LLLI Conference attendees. PIZZAZZ is always creating new ways to entertain, energize, educate, and enlighten.

While you attend sessions, browse exhibits, shop in the bookstore, and network at 50 Years -- Celebrating the Power of Breastfeeding, don't forget about the entertaining new activities that will be available to you and your family. Two new sessions, one for pre-adolescents and one for teens, are centered around the art of improvisational comedy. Think of the television show "Who's Line Is It Anyway?" with a La Leche League twist! Children will create their own scenarios and develop dialogue that can end up being quite hilarious. Chance to Dance has always been a popular activity for children of all ages. At the Conference in 2007, your children can also sign up for Chance to Sing led by certified music educator and active performer Carrie Scheff.

We'll also offer traditional Conference activities including a parade of nations on Opening Night and a World's Faire. Gala Awards Night is a new affair that will honor Board chosen awardees. Another first for the 50th Anniversary Celebration at the 2007 Conference will be the appearance of popular country music star Billy Dean, who will perform "Let Them Be Little" (along with additional songs in honor of the Founders!) at the Gala Dinner on closing night. Generous donors from members of the Alumnae Association have made this performance possible.

The 50th Anniversary Conference in Chicago, Illinois, USA on July 20-23, 2006 is just around the corner. Start planning your trip now to learn and laugh with fellow LLL Leaders, members, and friends! More information can be found at
