Breastfeeding, early childhood development, and parenting were among the many topics covered during the Conference.
More than 2,500 people, including parents, children, and health care providers attended the Conference to hear notable international breastfeeding experts. The speakers included Carlos Gonza?lez, MD, President, Catalan Breastfeeding Association, Spain; Ros Escott, IBCLC, Interim Executive Director of the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners, and Lawrence M. Gartner, MD, Chair, Executive Committee, American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Breastfeeding, USA.
These and other lactation experts presented the latest information on health care issues related to breastfeeding and on the many facets of lactation itself. Among the subjects covered were the risks of not breastfeeding, the impact of birthing practices on breastfeeding, breastfeeding management and support for women in the workplace, and the role of breastfeeding in protecting against obesity and type 2 diabetes.
Popular parenting sessions included living with the active alert child, children and ethics, how parents can help protect against bullying, practical ways to create a calm and happy home, and raising resilient children.
