Media Release: La Leche League International Accepts Invitation as Regional Focal Point
Schaumburg IL (May 2006)—La Leche League International (LLLI) has accepted an invitation from the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) to serve as the Regional Focal Point for North America, 2006-2008.
Regional Focal Points assist WABA in networking, information, support, and social mobilization activities at the regional level. These efforts include:
- Coordinating World Breastfeeding Week
- Translating and disseminating WABA materials
- Representing WABA at the regional level
- Keeping WABA updated on regional developments
- Facilitating communication and common actions between WABA and other breastfeeding related organizations.
Regional Focal Points are able to share news through the WABA web site (www.waba.org.my ) and through the WABA newsletter “WABA Link.” In this way WABA publicizes important information and activities around the world.
WABA is a global network of individuals and organizations concerned with the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding worldwide based on the Innocenti Declaration, the Ten Links for Nurturing the Future and the WHO/UNICEF Global Strategy on Infant and Young Child Feeding.
La Leche League International is a nonprofit organization founded in 1956 by seven women who wanted to help other mothers learn about breastfeeding. Today LLLI is an internationally recognized authority on breastfeeding, with a mother-to-mother network that includes La Leche League Leaders and Groups in countries all over the world.
