La Leche League is an international, nonprofit, nonsectarian organization dedicated to providing education, information, support, and encouragement to women who want to breastfeed.
Our monthly series meetings offer a special opportunity for expecting and nursing mothers to learn more about breastfeeding, ask questions and share with others.
Puxi English Meetings are on the third Wednesday of the month from 10 am 12pm at the Shanghai Community Center in the Shanghai Room. 5/F, No. 201, Lane 3215 Hongmei Lu, Gubei/Hongqiao near Hongsong Dong Lu (from Hongmei Rd the building is about 1km down Hong Song Dong Rd in a small plaza on the right/ DIS Shanghai and Green Apple Café are in the same plaza, but meetings are held upstairs on the fifth floor). Pudong Chinese meetings second Tuesday of each month from 10am-12pm. For more information and directions, please write to info@lllshanghai.com.
Pudong English meetings are held monthly at the Pudong Shanghai Community Center Jinqiao. The time is always 10am-12pm, though the date shifts each month. Please email info@lllshanghai.com for a list of the specific dates for upcoming meetings.

Meetings typically involve a group discussion about the selected topic followed by a time for questions related to breastfeeding and mothering issues. After the formal meeting is concluded, light refreshments are offered and mothers are given a chance to chat with other mothers in a warm and welcoming environment. Mothers are also invited to borrow from our multi-lingual lending library with titles that cover all aspects of positive parenting or to purchase specially imported items from our sling/book store.
LLL meetings are very helpful for breastfeeding mothers, but can also provide much-needed preparation for expectant moms since a bit of education can make a big difference in the successful outcome of a rewarding breastfeeding experience. We welcome anyone who wants to learn more about mothering through breastfeeding and meetings are a great way to meet like-minded friends and make connections with other in the commmunity.
La Leche League Shanghai offers free mother-to-mother breastfeeding help and information to all interested women through monthly meetings, email and telephone. The meetings are free but we encourage mothers to subscribe in order to support our local Group, our Area, and the international organization. LLL offers two levels of membership at 100 rmb for Basic Membership or 300rmb for the Book Membership, entitling the new member to choose a book from our bookstore. Also included:
- A "Thank You" gift from LLL Shanghai
- "Close to the Heart", an email publication produced for members of La Leche League Asia and the online New Beginnings magazine from LLL International
- All members are entitled to a 10% discount on new books (including The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding), slings, T-shirts, and breastfeeding products purchased through our Group
- Knowing that your membership fee goes to help support other breastfeeding mothers through LLL Shanghai, our Area and the international organization
LEADER INFORMATION
La Leche League Leaders are experienced mothers who are accredited by La Leche League International to help mothers and mothers-to-be with all aspects of breastfeeding. They can provide information and practical suggestions to help a mother cope with any difficulties that may occur. La Leche League Leaders are available to speak with a mother on the telephone or to answer questions by email. The training which a Leader receives through the accreditation process makes her uniquely qualified to support breastfeeding mothers. Selected initially for her experience, motivation and empathy, a La Leche League Leader is required to complete a comprehensive program to familiarize herself with most aspects of breastfeeding and also to develop her counseling skills. Once accredited, a Leader is provided with a continuing supply of information and support, including regular journals, contact with other experienced Leaders, and enrichment workshops and conferences.
