Board Meeting Actions
There was a first reading of a change
to the Bylaws, which now states that a majority of LLLI Board Members
must be LLL Leaders. (Two-thirds was previously required.) This change
will enable the Board to have more flexibility when recruiting Board
members with specific desired skill sets. Other actions taken are as
follows:
-
The 2008-2009 Budget was approved;
-
The 2006-2007 fiscal year audit was accepted;
-
The LLLI Strategic Plan was updated. A policy and associated appendix were added pertaining to Area Network Obligations and Privileges. The Executive Director has been authorized to work with Leaders worldwide to form Area Networks. This will include an entity in the United States

Development Staff Attends Donor Seminar
"Cygnus reminds us of what we all grew up knowing. Be grateful for what people do - and show it in meaningful ways. It's so simple!" This quote summarizes the "Donor-Centered Fundraising" seminar that the Funding Department staff recently attended. Penelope Burk, president of Cygnus Applied Research, Inc., presented a methodology that challenges accepted fundraising practices and raises much more money for any not-for-profit organization. Her donor research, humor, and passion for the philanthropic spirit have inspired Pam and Amy to incorporate many new (and some familiar) best practices into their Development work for LLLI.
LLL in Maceió Brasil - Peer Counselor Training
Pajuçara, LLLI Leader in Maceió, Brasil, was recently invited by a local pediatrician to take part in a project to train low-income mothers as peer counselors. She produced Portuguese materials for the trainees, conducted the course, and after the project and funding ended, she continues to support the women who were trained. Six thousand accredited volunteer Leaders worldwide, like Pajuçara, are involved in many different types of mother-to-mother support in their communities, improving the lives of babies and their families.
Giving Tree
Thirty-seven new leaves were added to the Giving Tree for those with a cumulative giving level of $3,000 between 2003-06.
Thanks for all the good work you are making possible!
