Managing Editor – Karen Williamson, IBCLC
Since 2011, Karen Williamson has enjoyed helping breastfeeding families in Oregon, USA through her role as an accredited La Leche League Leader. She co-led La Leche League (LLL) meetings for several years, and currently serves as a phone support Leader to local parents in need. Karen credits the caring Blue Spring, Missouri, USA LLL Leaders who trained her and the Portland, Oregon, lactation consultant who cheered her on after her first daughter’s birth, for inspiring her to learn all she can to help others.
Board-certified as a lactation consultant (IBCLC) in 2018, and with a bachelor’s degree in creative writing and literature from Pacific University (Oregon) in 1998, Karen is eager to spread accurate breastfeeding information around the world through the magazine’s pages.
She is a writer and busy mom to two teenage girls who keep her laughing. Karen brings to the position prior experience in magazine editing, as well as corporate communications and fundraising writing, and hospital and clinic front office coordination.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to use my writing and editing skills and breastfeeding education to give back to La Leche League through this opportunity alongside my new colleague, Valentina. It is my sincere hope that Breastfeeding Today will be a wellspring of encouragement and helpful tips that keep readers coming back for more, while globally connecting breastfeeding, chestfeeding and pumping parents everywhere. I look forward to seeing your ideas and article submissions. Please feel free to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.”
Associate Editor – Valentina Attanasio
Valentina Attanasio has been a La Leche League Leader since 2013, serving families halfway between Bergamo and Milan, Italy. She is currently the International Liaison for La Leche League Italy, and she is also part of the Italian Leader Accreditation Department as an A/CLA (Associate Coordinator of Leader Accreditation).
Her first introduction to La Leche League (LLL) was love at first sight. A Leader helped her nurse her first baby in such a sensitive and gentle way that she could never forget. Since then she has wished to give back, but has realized that you always receive more blessings in return than what you give.
With a degree in Public Relations, and experience in communications and LLL publications, she hopes to help Breastfeeding Today flourish with a new look, a more international perspective, and inspirational stories from each corner of the globe.
Valentina lives near Milan with her husband and their three daughters, who fill their home with immense joy and challenges. Writing and the English language have always been her great passions, so much so that her family uses English as a second language. And the littlest one has been raised bilingual.
“I feel so honored to have been chosen for this job at the side of Karen and I can’t wait to let you all know what is boiling in the pot! I’ve missed Breastfeeding Today this past year. It’s my hope that this relaunch of the magazine will be a channel for spreading useful information and bringing together families from all over the world, willing to share their experiences through its pages.”
