How To Join
In collaboration with the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) LLLI will kick off World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) on 1 August and allow it to run through to the end of WBW; in much of the world is until 17 October (the anniversary of the inaugural LLL meeting).
Any Leader or anyone who supports LLL can have an impact at any level by raising money for “Step Up Together for Breastfeeding”. Anyone who wants to participate will ask for people to sponsor them for undertaking a certain number of steps or traveling a certain distance within a time of their choosing. Many people at this time have watches or phone apps, which will count steps/kilometers/miles, or they can just count them or decide on a certain distance to step/travel within. The idea is that it would be an achievable personal challenge or healthy outing as well as prompting people to get together for La Leche League. Many people wish to refocus on personal health and wellbeing as the pandemic changes the world, and this would be an opportunity to tap into that desire while giving people a tangible cause to donate to.
LLLI welcomes traditional walking, use of a wheelchair, biking, and other alternative forms of travel.
Participating steppers will share and gather donations from sponsors to help them on their step mission. That can be friends, family, other leaders, and anyone who wants to help support the cause! There is a sponsor form where participants can track their sponsors and donations.
To collect donations; there are a variety of ways participants can do this. Examples of platforms participants can use include: Paypal, Venmo, Cashapp, Facebook Donations, and almost any money transferring app.
Participants can also choose where they would like to donate their proceeds. This can be to a specific group, a larger area, a La Leche League Affiliate/DCE, or even La Leche League International. It may be split as well between any of these different entities. If possible, it is recommended to split it 25% each.
LLLI requests that all Step Up Together for Breastfeeding money be distributed no later than 18 November 2022. (If WBW in your country ends after 17 October, we request that the money be distributed no later than 30 November 2022.)
If you are unsure how to donate, please email email@example.com with any questions.
There are many different ways you can count your steps!
The easiest would be through a smartwatch or personal steptracker. They already have steps built in and will let you know throughout the day your number of steps.
Many smartphones now also have the ability to count steps as well! If you have an IPhone, you can check your Health app for daily steps recorded by your phone. If you have an Android phone, the Google Fit app will show you your daily steps recorded.
